Åland United has secured a signing ahead of the 2025 season. American midfielder Kacey Smekrud, originally from Kentucky, will join the team in January. Smekrud is no stranger to Finnish football, having impressed during a short stint with RoPS, and is now ready to take the next step in her career with Åland United.

Head coach Daniel Norrmén is excited about the addition of Smekrud to the squad:
“Kacey is a very versatile player who can be used in several positions. Her key strengths include her ball skills and excellent game vision. During her time with RoPS, where she played both offensive and defensive roles, she scored 8 goals and provided 8 assists in just 10 matches. It will be exciting to see if she can maintain that level of productivity in the National League”
