Ann-Sofie Gripenberg returns to Åland United

After several years abroad and a long rehabilitation following her ACL injury, goalkeeper Ann-Sofie Gripenberg is back at Åland United. The 25-year-old from Åland has been training with the team throughout the spring and is now ready to take the next step: an official comeback in the Finnish top league, Nationella Ligan.

Daniel Norrmén, Head Coach of Åland United, says:

"It feels good and exciting that we've now signed a contract with Ann-Sofie, a local player who can now train fully and will soon be ready to play again after her ACL injury. Having three goalkeepers in the squad gives us great conditions and is an important part of our collaboration with IFK Dam. The fact that Ann-Sofie has already played at this level is a big advantage, and it will be interesting to see how quickly she can return to the form she had before the injury."

Ann-Sofie shares her thoughts on the journey back:

"This spring, I’ve had the opportunity to train and rehabilitate my ACL injury together with the team. It’s been a challenging time, but also a valuable and rewarding process. During this period, I’ve received fantastic support and help from both the coaching staff and my teammates, which has enabled me to take steps forward in my recovery.Their encouragement and dedication have been invaluable. I’ve truly felt welcomed in the team and quickly became part of this amazing group.I’m very grateful to continue my journey here, and I look forward to contributing my best to the team when I return to the pitch. It feels really fun and exciting to be back at Åland United, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together this season."
